Stone Cold Steve Austin Returns For One More Match. Could It Really Happen?

WWE Backstage : Stone Cold Steve Austin Returns For One More Match

2012 will turn out to be a massive year for WWE regardless of how WrestleMania 28 turns out. The event alone will set the benchmark for ‘historic’ matches within the company. On one side you have The Rock making a monumental comeback to face-0ff against the biggest superstar of the current generation, John Cena. But on the other hand, there’s a strong possibility that The Rock’s equal counterpart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, may lace-up his boots for one final round of ass-whoopin in Miami, Fl. If you want to know why I think Stone Cold will have One More Match, gimme’ a Hell Yeah! Or…you could just read more after the jump.

Triple H and Shane McMahon Get Stunnered
It is all but confirmed that The Undertaker has quietly, and unofficially, retired. There’s a huge possibility that the Deadman will have his final match next year at the Grandest Stage Of Them All, and proudly walk into the sunset with a 20-0 blazing above him. Then there’s The Rock vs John Cena, arguably the biggest match since The Rock vs Hulk Hogan. It’s Icon vs Icon. It’s the stuff legends are made of. No matter how the match turns out, it will become the ‘image’ of WrestleMania for years to come. With all these historic matches taking place and Attitude Era superstars returning for one final go-round in the ring, it’s very possible that WWE and Stone Cold could be working on a deal to have the Texas Rattlesnake ‘whoop someone’s ass backwards’ next year.
Hulk Hogan challenged Austin last week via the Internet, stating that he noticed Austin gearing-up for something big in the near future. And it’s true. While I’m almost certain Austin will never want to end his career with Hulk Hogan, the Texas Redneck has definitely been different lately. He was active on WWE programming thanks to Tough Enough, he’s showing some of that “roughneck” attitude that we haven’t seen for a while now, and when he hosted Raw a couple of weeks ago as the Special Guest GM, he literally owned the place and ‘toughened-up’ on the superstars. Add to this list the fact that Austin is in terrific shape, I’d say someone’s really, really hellbent on kicking someone’s backside next year. Maybe it’s the fact that The Rock is back for more, or maybe it’s just Austin itching to feel that adrenaline again. Either way, it’s great news for the fans!
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Undertaker WrestleMania 28Now before anyone starts a debate on why he can’t make a comeback at Summerslam or make a long-term comeback, lets be honest with ourselves. Austin has achieved everything he had set out to achieve in the business. There’s just no competition for him anymore. There’s no reason for him to go out and beat on kids half his age to prove a point. That doesn’t make him Austin, it only makes him a bully. It’s also why guys like The Undertaker feud against superstars with similar resumes and / or experience. So if Stone Cold was to have one more match, it should be against someone who has either earned their status in the company OR someone from Austin’s era. This leads me to believe that The Undertaker may have his final match against Stone Cold Steve Austin next year.
It’s a far-fetched idea and one that may never happen, but if you look at the build-up to this event and considering that this may be the final battle for both Austin and Taker, it only makes sense to book something as huge as this. It definitely beats being a Special Referee for a match as ridiculous as Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole, or a lousy Hair vs Hair match between two megalomaniacs, or coming out to deliver a Stunner to harmless comedians like Santino. If Stone Cold decides to strap on the boots and put on the vest, it’s got to be for an epic reason, and I can only think of three scenarios. Either he battles Randy Orton and mirrors the intensity of The Rock vs John Cena, or he battles CM Punk in a ‘dream match’ situation, or he takes on someone who he has built a reputation with for years : The Undertaker. Of course, he could take on guys like Triple H and Chris Jericho but I don’t see that really happening.

Stone Cold Steve Austin Drinks Some Beer

If it’s not the 3 scenarios above, I’d rather not see Austin return. It’s bad enough that he has had some of the stupidest contests with guys like Goldust and The Coach on lackluster PPVs like the now-defunct Cyber Sunday, but making him have a match against someone like Drew McIntyre or Sheamus (not that they’re bad, they’re just not ready to headline yet)will only botch the entire scenario.
Personally I’d love to see Stone Cold go head to head with his arch-nemesis, The Undertaker. It’s safe to say that there is no way The Streak is going to end at this point, so Austin will probably end up losing this battle. There is absolutely no shame in losing to someone like the legendary Undertaker, let alone at WrestleMania in a match for the most coveted winning-streak in sports entertainment. It’ll be a match of epic proportions, one that’ll probably be greater than The Rock vs John Cena in terms of in-ring performance.
In the end though, it’s all up to Austin and if he feels the drive to get back into the ring. If it’s there, great. If it’s not, so be it. If it truly does happen, then WrestleMania 28 will potentially be the greatest WrestleMania of all time.
“And that’s the Bottom Line, Cause’ Stone Cold Said So!”

CM Punk “The Best Wrestler In The World” Wallpaper

WWE CM Punk 'The Best Wrestler In The World' Wallpaper

It’s pretty obvious why this wallpaper is here right now. In case you’re unsure, it’s because CM Punk sent the shockwave of a magnitude 9 earthquake through not only WWE, but pro-wrestling itself with his groundbreaking closing segment of Raw this past Monday. CM Punk now has what only a select few have in the business, and that’s a defining moment. Just like Stone Cold had his “Austin 3:16” speech that sparked an era and made him the biggest, baddest sonffabitch on the planet, CM Punk’s revolutionary-like promo has turned him into a certified legend.
“The only thing that’s real is me, and the fact that day in and day out, for almost six years, I’ve proved to everybody in the world that I am the best on this microphone, in that ring, and even on commentary. Nobody can touch me.” ~ CM Punk
WWE Magazine said on Twitter that the atmosphere backstage is ‘edgy‘. And why wouldn’t it be? CM Punk called out a lot of people that night, and I’m sure there are tons more who hate his guts now. Which is awesome for Punk because I’m pretty sure the man feeds off the attention and the energy and walks like a very real, very dangerous, very vocal threat in the locker room. Despite the fact that he lashed out at the fans who cheer for him as well, all I’ve been chanting since Monday is “This is awesome!“.
The best part about this whole angle is that whatever Punk said was not scripted. Nothing was set-up. He went out there and verbally killed a dozen people before WWE shut him off. Things like this never happen, not in WWE. So when it does, and when it happens thanks to CM Punk, I just can’t help but mark-out.
This wallpaper was made because it had to be made, right now! There’s just no better time. It’s as direct to the face as Punk is. It says very clearly that Punk is “The Best Wrestler In The World“. You’ll also find familiar ‘faces’ in the wallpaper who have fallen victim to Punk’s whip-of-words. If or not you like CM Punk is irrelevant, because this wallpaper isn’t just for Punk, it’s one for history being made in WWE. Punk raised the bar for controversy last Monday. Whether or not there are those who dare follow in his lead is something we’re going to have to wait and see. Always remember what CM Punk did on Monday night, because people are going to be talking about it for a very, very long time. Download and enjoy, all!

WWE SmackDown Tapings Results - 7.1.11

The Money in the Bank briefcase is hanging above the ring. Teddy Long banned Christian from ringside during the Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry match. Christian demanded a match against Orton at Money in the Bank.

1. Randy Orton beat Mark Henry by countout. Big Show's music played and caught Henry off guard. Randy hit an RKO outside, and Henry was counted out. Henry headed to the technical area and went nuts. He grabbed the music tech and started trashing the area. He tossed the tech. Huge heat for Henry.

2. Daniel Bryan beat Ted DiBiase. Daniel Bryan came out with no music. Its no music night now. I hate you, Henry! Really good back and forth match. A submission win for Bryan.

Long was in the back. Christian asked for a title shot. Long blamed him for playing Big Show's music. Christian vs. Sin Cara tonight! Huge pop for this.

Cody rhodes talked trash to DiBiase in the back.

3. Christian defeated Sin Cara. The music was back for this match. The fans went nuts for Sin Cara, who used some very fancy moves. He almost messed up two moves. Christian quickly recovered to help Sin Cara complete the moves. Spear for the win by Christian.

A contract signing for Orton vs. Christian was advertised for later in the show.

4. Cody Rhodes (w/Ted DiBiase) beat Ezekiel Jackson in a non-title match. Cody got the win after DiBiase distracted Zeke.

Johnny Curtis was shown in the back. He delivered a horrible promo.

5. Kane beat Wade Barrett. I think this might have been for a spot in Money in the Bank, but nothing was announced. Rather, there was just a close up shot of the briefcase. A chokeslam by Kane for the win, and the MITB case was in focus again.

A table was set up for the contract signing and the taping his moving quickly. Teddy Long came out and then both wrestlers were introduced. Christian got some pops, and Orton got the monster pop. Christian had a lawyer with him. The contract states that if the referee makes a mistake or a bad call, he gets an automatic rematch.

Good interaction between the two men. Orton signed the contract, but Christian stalled. Sheamus attacked Orton before Christian signed. Sheamus laid out both men and tore up the contract. Sheamus left both men lying to end the show.

Dark Match

1. Randy Orton defeated Christian in a street fight to retain the World Hvt. Championship. Back and forth. There was nothing too hardcore. Orton hit the RKO for the win.

Vince says that he really suspended Punk because he doesn’t want Punk to leave with the title. Cena made fun of Vince being afraid to let Punk wrestle. Cena talks about the match and then Vince tells Cena not to piss him off and not to be like Hogan.
Cena tells Vince to give the people what they want. Vince says that he doesn’t give a damn what the people want. Cena gives Vince a speech and then gives Vince the WWE Championship and walks out.
Vince tells Cena to wait and he meets him on the ramp. Vince says that CM Punk is reinstated and Cena has his match at Money in the Bank with CM Punk. Vince tells Cena that if Punk walks out of Chicago with the title then John Cena is fired.
This was the end of the taping.
There was no mention about Del Rio’s title shot after the closing segment.

CM Punk Suspended

Last night cameras suddenly stopped rolling and Raw went of air. Michael Cole on the mic and announced that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon suspends CM Punk. Also new new #1 contender would be announced next week on Raw 7/4/11.
It’s official on WWE.com as last night on WWE Raw Roulette, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon suspends CM Punk.

WWE.com stated the following:

Raw’s abrupt conclusion Monday night was not due to technical difficulties. The decision to suddenly end the broadcast in that manner was made by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, who gave this quote to WWE.com:
“CM Punk was suspended indefinitely for his unprofessional conduct as soon as Raw went off the air.”
With his WWE contract expiring on July 17, one can only assume that this suspension effectively terminates CM Punk’s tenure with WWE.
