How Is The Rock Training for John Cena?, Rock-Politics?, Name Game

The Rock spoke with Moviefone this week to promote Journey 2 and discuss WrestleMania 28. In the interview, The Rock said that one day he would get into the world of politics so he can impact the world. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Now with this incredibly busy slate of action movies, how are you finding time to train for a WrestleMania main event?

You fit it in, that’s what you do. I make sure there’s a ring on location with me, anywhere that I shoot. I had a ring down in New Orleans, when I was preparing for the Madison Square Garden event. I have a ring down in Florida, a ring down in Louisiana; there’s always a ring close by. In order to prep for WrestleMania, it’s a lengthy training camp that requires daily work inside the ring because you can’t simulate the physicality of professional wrestling.

But is your opponent John Cena really going to be that much trouble?

The only trouble he’s going to have is removing my size 15 boot from his ladyparts.

I think that’s what a lot of people wanted to hear.

That’s right — I’m excited about all the projects you just mentioned. I’m excited about WrestleMania; to be able to go back, team up with Vince [McMahon] and make a big vision like that come to life and create the biggest match-up of all time is very special to me. There’s countless matches that have moved me and inspired me, and we’re going to do something very special down in Miami, my hometown, sold-out Sun Life Stadium. Boots to John Cena’s ass.

Finally, playing a round of word association, if you were a movie producer, what kind of character would you cast these wrestling stars as, in their Hollywood debut: “Macho Man” Randy Savage?

A great villain.
Heir to the WWE Empire, Triple H?

The small pipsqueak of a body, what do you call it?
A henchman?

No, because henchmen are big and bad. [Laughs] I’m kidding, guy’s an animal.
Soulman Rocky Jonhson?
A pioneer.

John Cena?
The female lead.

Top WWE Star Back to Mid-card, Why Chris Hero-WWE Was Delayed

As noted before, former Ring of Honor star Chris Hero has finally been signed by WWE. Word is that Hero’s signing was delayed because he has a naturally elevated testosterone/epitestosterone level and WWE won’t sign talents who can’t pass the steroid test. It took months and many rounds of testing to prove that the high level was natural.

The Miz was a big favorite of WWE management back when he won the WWE Title a year ago because of publicity that he brought the company. The feeling now is that Miz has regressed, both in the ring and on the microphone. The feeling is that when Miz was booked as a mid-carder before, he was hungry and forced officials to make him a headliner. Now he’s back to the mid-card and isn’t forcing them to push him. The botch with R-Truth on this week’s RAW didn’t do him any favors.

"Undertaker & HBK" Announced For Raw Next Month, Graham Released

The official website of  The Quicken Loans Arena is now advertising The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels for the Raw SuperShow taking place at the venue on March 12, 2012.

The Rock and Triple H were previously announced for the event. A double main event is also scheduled: John Cena vs. Kane and CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Championship.

WWE Hall of Famer Superstar Billy Graham has been released from the hospital after being admitted on Sunday for pneumonia and leg infection. He is on heavy antibiotics right now. Graham believes he caught a virus at a wrestling convention last week in Los Angeles, California.

Wednesday would have marked as the 54th birthday of WWE Hall of Famer “Sensational” Sherri Martel. She died on the morning of June 15, 2007 at her mother’s residence in McCalla, Alabama. The toxicology report stated that Martel died of an accidental overdose with multiple drugs in her system, including a lethal concentration of oxycodone.

Jericho & Punk Continue RAW’s Hurting 10pm Timeslot, Six Pack Challenge

The February 6th WWE RAW Supershow did a 3.25 cable rating with 4.61 million viewers.

In the segment breakdown, the opener with Triple H started strong with a 3.62 quarter rating. Big Show vs. Daniel Bryan lost 508,000 viewers. Bryan’s promo and the taped segment with John Cena with NASCAR’s Carl Edwards gained 43,000 viewers. Sheamus vs. David Otunga lost 197,000 viewers.

The segment with CM Punk and Chris Jericho gained just 94,000 viewers – another bad showing for the 10pm timeslot. Randy Orton and The Great Khali vs. Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes lost 22,000 viewers while the eight-Divas match lost 139,000 more.
The Six Pack Challenge with Jericho vs. Punk vs. The Miz vs. R-Truth vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston gained 443,000 viewers, finishing at a 3.42 quarter rating. This is another low number for the overrun.

WWE Legend Out for 6 Months

WWE Legend Jimmy Snuka is recovering from right ankle replacement surgery. Snuka was told that he won’t be able to wrestle for at least six more months.

Jim Ross Says He Doesn’t Hate TNA, Maria Added To ROH Roster

- Jim Ross was asked on Twitter if he “hates” WWE rival TNA. He says, “Hell, no.”
Ross explained on his official website, “Why would I hate TNA? That makes no sense.

It provides fans with more product to enjoy and more importantly, to me, provides wrestlers with another place to live their dream and earn a living.

Same goes for ROH or any other promotion.

The healthier those companies are the better it is for the overall genre. Any one who thinks that I ‘hate’ other wrestling organizations is 100% Pet Coon Goofy.”

He was also asked if he would consider owning the promotion.

Ross responded, “Lord, no. I have no desire, or the funding, to attempt to manage or own any wrestling company at this stage of my life. There are too many headaches and I’m not into sports psychology or managing a day care center for wrestlers.”
- Maria Kanellis has been added to the Ring of Honor website roster page. The former WWE Diva debuted in the promotion in December as the valet of real-life boyfriend “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett.
- Sheamus is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Power Slam.

Former Nexus Member Retiring, Why Divas Aren’t Currently On Tour and More

- Former WWE star Michael Tarver said he’s retiring from pro wrestling in a few years.

“This month marks 8 years in the biz I’m hanging in until 10 then I done with this crap”

- Santino Marella and Hornswoggle will be appearing at the Cricket store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 18th at 1pm.

NFL Stars Wants a Job with WWE, Batista & Vin Diesel’s Movie, Cody Rhodes

- Jim Ross and Baltimore Ravens All Pro Bryant McKinnie were going back and forth on Twitter last night about McKinnie working for WWE. McKinnie told JR to “make it happen.”

Ross wrote that McKinnie would be perfect for WWE.

- Chronicles of Riddick 2 is currently filming in Montreal, Canada and co-stars former WWE Superstar Dave Batista and Vin Diesel.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Batista appears in “9/10ths of the film.”

- WWE Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes will be signing autographs at the Save Mart Center’s West Center Doors next Tuesday, February 14th from noon until 1pm. The Save Mart Center will host the SmackDown tapings that night.

Zach Gowen Discusses His Run With WWE, Mistakes He Made

Zach Gowen has gone through a lot in his life – he lost his left leg to cancer as a child, he was thrust into a worldwide spotlight at 18, he went through a deep bout with drugs and alcohol, became homeless, then turned his life around, lived to tell the tale and started a family.

It’s truly an unbelievable story, especially when you consider he’s only 28 years old. For 6 months in 2003, he was the most talked about WWE Superstar on the roster.

In this interview, he talks about making it to WWE (“I was bagging groceries one night, working in front of 200 people at an indy show the next, then for WWE in front of 15,000 the next – it was a lot”), clarifying the “attitude problems” that led to his WWE departure, dealing with drugs and alcohol, being homeless, pulling out of that to where he is today – a motivational speaker who is writing a book about his life and is expecting his first child. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

What made him decide to enter professional Wrestling despite losing his leg to cancer, and what kind of reaction did he get from his family and friends when he told them that he wanted to be in the wrestling business: “I made the decision when I was 16.

I knew that wrestling was what I was going to do because my love and passion for wrestling was unparalleled. Basically there’s nothing in life that grabbed my interest or mesmerized me as much as Professional Wrestling. I just knew I would somehow be involved in it.”

His debut with WWE on the May 15, 2003 episode of SmackDown with Mr. America, Sean O’Haire and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, where Piper pulled his prosthetic leg off. Explains how Piper originally tried pulling the wrong leg by mistake: “I hit him (Piper) with Mr. America’s flag pole and then Sean O’Haire tackled me. Piper was gonna come over, rip my prosthetic leg off, cause no one knew at the time I had a missing limb. When he was pulling my real leg, he was pulling extremely hard too and yelling at me “why wont this thing come off kid (laughs)”

What lead to his release from WWE; was it his backstage attitude? What was his circumstance like, and what extent does he remember going versus the perception he received: “I didn’t know how to conduct myself as a WWE superstar, I didn’t know how to conduct myself as an employee of that organization, I didn’t know how to conduct myself as a man at that point cause I wasn’t a man (Gowen was 18 at time of signing). I guess I acted out a little bit.

Thing is I didn’t want to, that’s just what was going on in my head at the time. What was going on inside of me was the complete opposite, I felt like I didn’t belong there, I felt I wasn’t as good as these guys, I felt like I didn’t fit in at all.”

What are his goals today, doing motivational speaking, and explaining how he got into drugs and alcohol. When he was at the lowest point with the drugs and alcohol, what got it to turn it around for him: “I would like to say I have a spiritual intervention basically. I don’t know what happened, I was sick and tried of being sick and tired, and I was living one lie after another.

I remember I came to my mom about everything because I was trying to leave this double life, everything just came out. Basically I dropped to my knees and asked for help for the first time in my life.

My mom suggested I go into the WWE’s rehab program and thought it was a great idea, so I called the WWE office and told them I needed help and didnt know how to stop. It was the best thing I’ve ever done.”

WWE Nixes Plans from Two Shows, Announcer to Creative, Bad WWE YouTube Content

- It’s said that some of the shows filmed for WWE’s revamped YouTube channel have been “so bad that they will never see the light of day.”
- FCW star Seth Rollins noted that former developmental announcer Matt Martallaro now works at WWE headquarters with the creative team.
- As noted before, Brodus Clay vs. Heath Slater and a post-match angle with Brodus and Drew McIntyre was edited off last Friday’s SmackDown.

Brodus did not appear on RAW last night but there was a plan in place to re-do the angle that was cut from Friday’s SmackDown with McIntyre. No word yet on why it didn’t happen last night.

Jake Roberts Speaks Out - HOF Induction, Austin

Jake "The Snake" Roberts recently spoke about the WWE Hall of Fame, working with Steve Austin and more. Check out the highlights:

On what a WWE Hall of Fame Induction would mean to him: "A lot. A lot, because I did make a lot of mistakes in my career but if they would acknowledge what I did and what I accomplished by putting me in there, it would be something I could give to my Grandchildren, for everything I did right, I know I belong in there, a lot more than others that are in there but I don't care about that, the WWE was very good to me. I didn't understand a lot of things, I was not a good business man. Vince would call me say we need an idea for this and I'd give him an idea and we'd just rock and roll with it, I didn't know I'd to go in there and fight for my money and my place and the bottom line is the squeaky wheel gets the grease and I should of recognized that. I should have done the right thing and been squeaky."

On whether he thought Steve Austin's "Austin 3:16" promo would become as iconic as it did: "Oh absolutely, I told Vince from the get-go that Steve was going to be his next super-superstar and Vince said he'd 'never be better than third or fourth match' and I said 'Vince, it will take him longer to get over, but once he gets over he will get so far above everybody else, you will not believe it!', and what happened?"

On whether scripted promos are good or bad: "Nobody knows my character like me, but the problem today is these guys don't have any characters, they don't know what they are, hell, they all do the same damn thing and nobodies selling anything. Never say anything and not do it, because you'll destroy your own credibility, most important thing about that is if you ever destroy your credibility to a fan he will never believe you again, today they're going out there and doing all this crap nobody sells anything in the ring, and the reason is these guys have not learned they're trait. In my day you had to progress, you had evolve, to change to keep your job, there's a little initiative to get you going and that's the difference."

Follow The Rock and John Cena's life as they prepares for their match at WrestleMania XXVIII

The Miz Talks About WWE’s Young Talent, Latest Backstage Fallout Video

Sky Sports recently interviewed the Miz, here are some highlights…

On Main Eventing WM With John Cena:
... Being involved in the biggest match of 2011 was pretty incredible. To main event WrestleMania was a dream come true and something every kid who is a WWE fan has thought about growing up. Not only did I do that but I retained my WWE Championship, not once but twice. I always set out to be the first person to do something and that's what I did at WrestleMania. I beat John Cena by pinning him, making me the first person to do that in WrestleMania history. That was another incredible feat.

On Being Overshadowed By The Rock:
I was almost feeling like I was lost in the battle of The Rock and John Cena, but towards the end I really started picking up my pace. By the end of it, I truly believed that people weren't just talking about The Rock and John Cena, they were talking about The Miz. And now people are talking about The Miz more and more as a top-tier talent rather than a person who's trying to get to that level.

On His Wrestling Heroes:
When I was a kid growing up in the '80s, I wanted to be the Ultimate Warrior. I would put the streamers on my arms, paint my face and cut promos like him. I also loved the Rockers tag team of Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty. When I teamed with John Morrison we always said we were like a new-age Rockers because we were fast and exciting. Unfortunately for Morrison, he became the Jannetty and I became the Michaels! Going into the Attitude Era, I liked D-Generation X because they were doing stuff that had never been done, while The Rock and Stone Cold were also exciting.

On Daniel Bryan:
I take full credit for Daniel Bryan being World Heavyweight Champion having mentored him on NXT and Monday Night Raw. When he won the Money in the Bank briefcase he promised that he would do something that no-one else had done before and cash it in at WrestleMania. But then he did what everyone else did - what he watched me do the year before - and cashed it in at the end of another match. He followed directly in my footsteps.

On Some of the Young WWE Talent:
I thought Alex Riley would be very impressive but then he left my side and all my coaching went out the window. He's gone his own way now and where has that got him? On Superstars every week! I think Brodus Clay could be very good. He is entertaining and he is a huge guy but he has a long way to go to be taken seriously. And while I don't consider Dolph Ziggler new, he is fresh to the main-event scene and I think he is doing an incredible job.

WWE’s new YouTube channel has released the latest “Backstage Fallout” video featuring backstage footage from Monday’s RAW. This edition focuses on Daniel Bryan and A.J. following Bryan’s Raw match with Big Show, David Otunga talking about his match with Sheamus Tamina talking about winning the eight-Diva tag match for her team.

Randy Orton Taking Time Off?, Nowinski Talks Conversations with Benoit

Former WWE star Chris Nowinski, of the Sports Legacy Institute, told The Busted Open radio show that Randy Orton is now advocating to take time off to heal from injuries. Nowinski ran into Orton last year and Orton was talking about his concussion experiences.

“A guy like Randy Orton just didn’t buy into it, and I ran into him in March, and he started talking about his concussion experiences and he was like, ‘Gosh I didn’t know it was that bad.’ He is an advocate for himself now to take time off and so it’?s interesting to see this turn.”

Nowinski also talked about conversations he had with Chris Benoit days before the June 2007 tragedy.

“We incorporated Sports Legacies ten days before the Benoit tragedy. A year prior to that I sat down with Benoit when I was still working for (WWE) and he just started asking me questions. He was more interested than any other wrestler, which helps me realize that he actually knew there was something wrong with him. He asked me about how many concussions I had and I asked him and he said, ‘Well, I had more concussions than I can count.’ So, because he told me that and then he told me to give him a call. I remember months later… I called him and he acted like he didn’t know why I was calling after he gave me his number. So, I thought maybe there was a memory thing or maybe a mood thing going on. So, when it happened, I was sure that is why it happened.”
