WWE SmackDown 9/9/11 Results (Detailed)

Smackdown starts with the most recent Mark Henry video package about his Hall of Pain. We go to the show-opening vignette, and instead of the usual pyro routine, out comes Mark Henry for a promo. And he’s going to tell us about the Hall of Pain. He says men have walked to the ring, but were carried out of it, and despite what people may think, just because he is already 15 with the WWE, doesn’t mean his best years are behind him. He tells people to ask Big Show and Kane, and that these two have special wings in the Hall of Pain. He says that at Night of Champions, Randy Orton is gonna be inducted. In the Hall of Pain are broken bones, broken careers, and broken hope. The beating he gave RKO last week on the cage was the worst he ever got, but that’s only “a good start”, and there will be more from where that came from. Henry’s whole career has led him to this moment. He’s more unpredictable, dangerous and reckless than he’s ever been. He is the World’s Strongest Man, and at NOC, we will be looking at the new World Champion.
Out comes Zack Ryder. He tells that Henry is on a roll, and he loves the Hall of Pain. He says they can be Broskis. Henry cut him off saying Ryder must have a death wish for interrupting him. Ryder explains that he means no disrespect, he just came to tell that both Henry and Orton are on action tonight. But Teddy Long made a no-contact rule for tonight, and if any of them interfere in eachother’s matches, there are going to be some big problems. He tries to go away but Mark calls him back to the ring. Henry thanks Ryder for the info. The Long Island Iced Z tries to run again, but Henry wants to ask him a question and calls him back. He asks “Who do you think is gonna win at NOC”, and Ryder answers with “I think Beth Phoenix has Kelly Kelly’s number, right?”, but about the match between Henry and Orton he says he can’t answer, and tries to flee once again. Henry pulls him back and says that since he can’t put his hands on Randy Orton, he will have to place them on somebody. Ryder drops the mic and starts firing blows at Henry, but Henry gives him a monstruous chop and the World’s Strongest Slam. Out comes Ezekiel Jackson and we go to a break.

Back from the break we get our first match of the night.

Ezekiel Jackson vs. Mark Henry

They start with a test of strength, and when it appears Zeke is powering out, Henry gives him a back body drop. Zeke wanna go for another test of strength, but Henry cuts it off and puts him in a arm hold. Henry drops Ezekiel again. Zeke fires punches and tries to put Mark in the Torture Rack to no avail. Henry goes outside to regroup, Zeke follows and eats a boot to the face. Mark drives Zeke’s spine to the ring post, puts him back in the ring, drops a clothesline, two World’s Strongest Splashes and a World’s Strongest Slam. Cover and this one is over.
Winner: Mark Henry via pinfall
The announcers plug the Champion vs. Champion match between the two former Legacy members Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. We go to Teddy Long’s office. He’s talking to the phone that “You couldn’t have chosen a better person for the cover than the WHC Randy Orton.” Enters Aksana asking to be the special guest ring announcer again this week. Teddy tells her that if she announces every week, it wouldn’t be special. She answers saying that ring announcing isn’t the only special thing she can do with her mouth. She can sing too. She thinks they can make beautiful music together. Teddy says that thinks that would be fine but he needs to check on Zack Ryder now and leaves the room.
Out comes Sin Cara to a pop, even despite his actions last week, which were replayed. We go for a break.

Back from break, we get our next match:

Sin Cara vs. Tyson Kidd

They start with a lock-up and some chain wrestling with acrobatics. The stalemate ends when Cara lands a hurricanrana sending Kidd outside. Cara climbs to the top rope and gives a cross body to Tyson. Cara puts Kidd back in the ring, covers and a two count. Cara places Kidd against the turnbuckle, and starts with some kicks and chops. Irish whips Kidd to another corner, but when he runs towards him he is met with a hip toss that sends Cara back first in the turnbuckles. Cover and only two. Tyson in control with some forearms. He whips Cara to the ropes and gives him a elbow to the gut. Snapmare and kick to the back. Cover and one count. Tyson goes for a seated underhook lock. Cara stands up. Tyson goes for a back suplex but Cara lands on his feet, ducks an incoming clothesline and counters with a enzuigiri. They trade blows for a while and Kidd reverses a whip, sending Cara to a corner, but he holds to the ropes and lands on the apron in acrobatic fashion. Shoulder block to the gut by Cara and then a springboard cross chop for two. Cara with kicks and a springboard cross body that is countered into a pin in predicament for two. Kidd kicks Cara in the gut but when he runs towards Sin Cara, he is met with a variation of the Angle Slam. He goes for his Hilo/Moonsault combo finisher, covers and the three.
Winner: Sin Cara via pinfall
Josh Matthews go for a interview with Cara. He asks Cara if he can understand him because he doesn’t speak English. But we have seen a more agressive side of him as of late, and he wants to know why. He than answers (in an English-Spanish combination, similar to what Mahal does) that he is an intense competitor, and in Mexico he was a big star but ever since he came to the WWE he held back out of respect for the other people. But now that he is here, no one will stop him, or take his style, his agression, this is the real Sin Cara.
Out comes Daniel Bryan. He tells that he is surprised Cara speaks English, he didn’t saw that one coming, just like he didn’t saw the kick he was given last week coming. But when he did that, he spoke in universal language that he doesn’t respect Daniel Bryan. Now they have a problem, but Bryan suggests a match next week to solve it. Cara gives Bryan a low blow and the LeBell Lock.
Still to come tonight is Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett and the main event, Rhodes vs. Orton.

Back from the break we get a Cody Rhodes video package. We go to the locker room where Matt Striker interviews Randy Orton about his match with Cody Rhodes. Orton answers that ever since Cody’s face was bashed he changed, but not for the better. Cody’s unstable, and unstable can be dangerous. Just as dangerous as is Mark Henry, who is now at the peak of his career, leaving people wondering who can stop The World’s Strongest Man. Randy tells the answer to that question is an RKO.
Enter the Divas Champion Kelly Kelly, as we go for commercial.

Back from break, the announcers plug the “Divas of Doom” situation, as Natalya enters along with Beth Phoenix for our Divas Match of the night.

Natalya vs. Divas Champion Kelly Kelly – non-title match

Natalya runs towards Kelly who ducks and goes straight with forearms. Kelly tries to whip Natalya who holds on, whips Kelly to the corner, goes for a clothesline which is ducked and countered into a bulldog for a one count. Natalya stands up and manages to put KK in eletric chair position, but Kelly holds to the ropes and puts the Calgary Diva in a Tarantula-like submission. The ref counts until 4, and Kelly breaks up and goes to the outside, only to be met by a knee on her way back into the ring. Dropping her outside again. Beth Phoenix draws Kelly’s attention for Natalya to come with a forearm from behind. Natalya slaps Kelly, drags her back to the ring and kicks her in the gut. Natalya taunts Kelly and picks her up to put her in an abdominal stretch. The Divas Champion tries to fight back but is mat slammed. Cover and two count. Natalya picks her up again and presses her against the ropes, taunting Kelly. When the ref breaks up, Kelly comes back with a slap, escapes the Alabama Slam attempt by holding to the ropes and landing on the apron, and tries a springboard sunset flip. Natalya counters into a Sharpshooter, only to be countered with a small package for the three count.
Winner: Divas Champion Kelly Kelly via pinfall
Kelly exits the ring to avoid a Beth Phoenix attack. The Sheamus-Barrett match is plugged as we go to a break.

Back from the break, the “From the Vault” segment features a match between John Morrison and CM Punk, when Punk was WHC and starting his heel turn. In this non-title match, Morrison grabs an upset victory, and Punk attacks him afterwards.
We go for a break.

Back from commercial, a match is about to start, but Christian interrupts the introductions. He says that the following match has been postponed. In fact, all of the matches have been postponed because Teddy Long refuses to do the right thing. He says that he was forced to compete in last week’s Raw main event, when he was illegally double teamed by Sheamus and John Cena, but he still competed in a Steel Cage match for the World Heavyweight Championship, and despite what happened, he took Randy Orton to his very limit. Many experts, he said, told Christian was well ahead in the scorecards before the end. So the only right thing to do is to, and that the fans will all agree, that Captain Charisma deserves “One more match” for the World Heavyweight Title…
The promo is interrupted by Sheamus. He tells Christian to give it a rest, because this is getting embarassing. This reminds him of a story about some puppies his dog once had. All the puppies were born strong and healthy, but one. The last pup actually grew up to be scrawny. Also, every time he barked, hot air came out of his arse. Christian tells Sheamus to shut up, and that no one cares about his stupid Irish background, so do us all a favor and just shut your mouth. So Sheamus says he’ll make it short and sweet. First of all, he has a match right now and really wants to get it started. Second, everyone knows Christian isn’t getting a rematch. Three, Christian is out of matches, chances and excuses, but right now, he is going to get out of this ring. They stare, but Christian obeys and gets out. Wade Barrett comes out to his match.

Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett

They lock-up to start and get a stalemate. They go to the corner, and the ref breaks up the hold. Sheamus taunts Barrett. They lock up again and Sheamus secures a side headlock takedown. Barrett gets up, whips Sheamus to the ropes, but eats a shoulder block for two. Barrett fights back with punches, headbutts and kicks. Sheamus answers with a kick to the shin when Barrett runs towards him in the corner, and some hammer clubs, punches and headbutts. Sheamus whips Barrett in the ropes, eats a kick, but counters with a elbow to the face, and Barrett rolls out of the ring. Wade takes his time to come back. The former Nexus leader lands a kick to the gut and some forearms to the back of Sheamus’ head. Sheamus fights back and starts firing away at Barrett and gets in total control. After some punches, kicks and stomps, he tries to whip Barrett into a corner, but Barrett reverses and sends Sheamus crashing into it. Barrett drops an elbow and kicks Sheamus’ back, picks him up, whips him to the ropes, and meets him with a flying forearm for a two count. Barrett is in control and starts hitting consecutive hammer clubs at Sheamus’ chest, and knees to his back, before putting him in a hold as we go for commercial.

Back from the break Barrett lands a Black Hole Slam for a nearfall and is still in the driver seat. Barrett places Sheamus in a hold while he is on the ropes until the ref counts 4 and he has to let him out. Sheamus tries to fight back but is met with knees to the face. Barrett taunts and hits a big boot that makes the Celtic Warrior hang to the ropes by his feet. Barrett smiles and taunts. After that he tries to get Sheamus back in the ring, but he falls to the outside. Barrett goes outside, drives Sheamus’ back into the apron edge, places him back in the ring and covers for a two count. Barrett applies a rest hold. Sheamus stands up and fights back with headbutts. Barrett counters with a haymaker and Sheamus goes to the apron. Wade tries to get him back but is hotshotted to the ropes. Sheamus goes back on his own and lands double-arm clotheslines. He runs towards Barrett on the corner but is met with a boot to the face. Barrett runs towards Sheamus but is the one countered, this time with a tilt-a-whirl scoop powerslam. Barrett goes to the ropes, only to eat Sheamus’ usual hammer fist on the chest/apron running knee routine. Sheamus connects with the top rope shoulder block. When he starts signaling for his finisher, Christian attacks him from behind ending this match.
Winner: Sheamus via disqualification
Christian stomps and punches away at Sheamus, who fights back but is stopped when Barrett joins the assault. They pick Sheamus up, and he fights back again, this time Christian bails out and Barrett ends up eating a Brogue Kick. Christian tries to attack him from the top rope but Sheamus counters it. Sheamus goes for the Celtic Cross but Christian escapes and this time exits the ring for good.
The main event is plugged, and we go to commercial.

Back from the break, we get the entrances for our tag team rematch from Raw, which had no plugs throughout the show.

Jinder Mahal & The Great Khali vs. Tag Team Champions Air Boom – non-title match

Bourne tries to start with chain wrestling but Mahal gives him a elbow to the side of the head. A knee to the gut and a whip to the ropes. Mahal tries his jumping knee but Bourne holds on to the ropes to stop his own momentum, and nails a hurricanrana. Kick by Bourne, but Mahal whips him to the corner. Bourne seats in the top turnbuckle, and tries to give Mahal a kick when he runs towards him. Mahal catches Bourne’s foot though, and pulls him right into a clothesline in mid-air for two. Mahal holds Bourne and tags Khali in. Khali kicks Bourne’s gut and clubs him in the back. Khali chokes Bourne in the ropes. After that he tags Mahal back in, and gives Bourne a chop on the chest on his way out. Mahal lifts Bourne for a suplex, but is hit with a knee. He tries to clothesline Bourne but is hit with another knee. Bourne manages to get the hot tag, and Kofi is in. Kofi hits a springboard cross body, then his karate chops/dropkick/jumping clothesline sequence. Boom Drop and he tries for Trouble in Paradise, which is ducked. He jumps into the turnbuckle and hits a cross body on Mahal for two. Khali and Bourne interfere, and Khali sends Bourne outside. Mahal uses the distraction to fight back with knees. Mahal and Khali start arguing and Mahal slaps Khali right across the face. Khali pushes Mahal right into Trouble in Paradise. Cover, and this one is over.
Winners: Air Boom via pinfall
Khali seems to have had enough, and their relationship is apparently over. The announcers plug Night of Champions. After the plug, is time for our main event of the night. Cody Rhodes makes his entrance as we go to a break.
-Commercial
Back from the break, Cody Rhodes cuts a promo about dropping Ted DiBiase. He says he is an inspiration. He’s been surrounded by people who are jealous of his abilities, his youth, and his success. He was trying to inspire DiBiase, but he was happy being Ted, but Rhodes wasn’t going to let him do that on his watch. So he dropped Ted, and with that anchor flunk to the bottom, he won the Intercontinental Championship. He guess that what we call an inspiration. Earlier tonight, Randy Orton said that he was unstable. Rhodes says that Randy is no man to talk. So Orton has inspired Rhodes to show him just how unstable he can be. Randy makes his entrance, and we go to a break.

Back from the break the main event takes place.

Champion vs. Champion non-title match: World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton vs. Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes

Rhodes starts going for a school boy pin for one. They circle and Rhodes manages to lock a side headlock. Orton whips him, but Rhodes comes back with a small package and another one count. They stare eachother for some time. They lock-up and this time is Randy with a side headlock. Rhodes whip him, but Orton stops his momentum and hits a dropkick on Cody. Rhodes kicks Randy in the gut and delivers a Goldust-style uppercut. He goes for a dropkick of his own, but The Viper ducks. The World Heavyweight Champion then lands another dropkick for two. Orton stomps away at Rhodes. After some stomps, Randy stands Rhodes up, and whips him into a corner. He does it again, but in the third time his whip is reversed. He bounces back though and delivers a clothesline on Rhodes. The Intercontinental Champion tries to fend Orton off, but eats a Lou Thesz Press. Both stand up, and Rhodes is quicker, landing a headbutt on Orton with his protective mask, dropping The Viper. Rhodes now stomps Orton and is in control. Punches and stomps to Orton who is lying by the corner. Orton fights back with punches, headbutts, and an european uppercut. Jumping knee drop doesn’t connect, as Rhodes ducks. Rhodes goes immediately after the knee that was dropped on the mat. He picks Orton up and whips him to the ropes, landing a knee to the gut on Orton’s way back. He goes for whipping Orton again, but Randy puts him on the apron and tries to go for his apron DDT, which is countered to a back body drop. Orton lands on his feet on the apron, but eats a Beautiful Disaster which sends him outisde. We go for a break.
-Commercial
Back from break Rhodes is in control. After some stomps, Rhodes applies a key lock. Randy tries to stand up, but Rhodes drives some knees to Orton’s torso. Springboard stomp and two. Orton fights back, but Cody doesn’t let him. Rhodes with a hammer & face lock. Orton fights back and goes for a clothesline, but Rhodes again fends him off with a knee to the gut. Orton tries a comeback, but Rhodes fends him off and hits an Alabama Slam for a nearfall. Rhodes whips Randy to the corner, and tries a bulldog, but Orton throws him off, sending Rhodes falling. Winner: Randy Orton via pinfall
After the match, Mark Henry walks to the ring. Champion and challenger stare eachother in the middle of the squared circle. Orton forgets the no-contact and fires punches at Henry. He goes for RKO but is whipped to the corner. Henry gives him a clothesline, picks him up, and delivers two World’s Strongest Slams. Henry picks a chair, places it on atop of Orton and sits. He tells Randy he could have broke his leg, but that’s not how he wants to win the title, and that’s the only reason he didn’t do it. Henry stands tall as the show ends.
